Peninsula Teacher Training Cornwall SCITT

The Peninsula Teaching School started in September 2011 as one of the first 100 Teaching Schools across England, the first in Cornwall and at that time one of only four in South West England. From the beginning the aim of the Teaching School has been to be inclusive, to develop new leaders, train new teachers and catalyse the flow of good practice from school to school. We aim to improve the quality of teaching across the alliance, to foster high aspirations for your young people and to support each other.

The Peninsula Teaching School acts as a broker for eleven Specialist Leaders of Education or SLEs. SLEs are a part of the school improvement programme that also includes National Leaders of Education (NLEs) and Local Leaders of Education (LLEs). SLEs are outstanding senior or middle leaders who apply to and are shortlisted by the National College for School Leadership before being passed on to the designated Teaching School geographically nearest. SLEs work to support individuals and teams in similar positions within other schools to develop their leadership capacity and practice and so improve outcomes for children.

Peninsula SCITT offers a one year Initial Teacher Training (ITT) programme for Graduates through which you can gain both QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and your PGCE. An entirely school based course combining training delivered by experienced teachers with an opportunity to see the theory in practice in the Outstanding Penrice Academy in St Austell. Our unique partnership with Plymouth University means that you will receive face to face tutoring and support as you work through your PGCE assignments as well as being able to access the study facilities and student services of Plymouth University. Our large network of partner scools enables Peninsula SCITT to put trainees in schools across Cornwall for their Main and Second School Placements.
